Stablehost.com - Affordable and Reliable Web Hosting - Josh's Recommendation
Over the past 10 years, I have tried and tested a handful of hosting providers. I have typically researched providers that specialize in offering hosting solutions to small and medium sized businesses/websites. If your website receives around 100,000 unique hits a day or gets traffic like Twitter, Google, Facebook or Apple, these providers would not be your top choice, but for the rest of us, they are!
Most of the websites I build, are just fun little hobby sites that I will throw together and then take down after a few years. So for me, a budget hosting provider is a perfect fit. Many of these budget hosting providers, also have premium and business grade solutions in addition to their budget line of hosting plans. This way, if your site grows in traffic and demand, you can easily upgrade with the same provider to a more robust and fully featured hosting plan.
One such provider is Stablehost.com. I have been using this provider for the past 4 years and have no complaints whatsoever (which is quite rare for hosting companies and my high standards for budget hosting). They have plans that start at $3.95 USD per month for a small to medium traffic websites. Most of their plans have unlimited bandwidth and disk space which is something you want. You don't want to have to worry about traffic and disk space caps. Check out Stablehost.com's hosting rates by clicking here.
Most hosting providers that offer unlimited everything, usually have performance caps on their servers (memory, processes, CPU usage), meaning your site can appear slow at times if you have a peak in traffic. However, if your website has low to medium traffic, or similar to my site (basic content site), I think this is a perfectly fine hosting option. These hosting plans can even support memory heavy CMS platforms like Drupal, Joomla, etc. I even have http://www.yoninja.com running on this web hosting plan and it works just fine.
Stablehost.com's $3.95 plan is perfect for anyone just starting out with a website idea. Think about it, that's less than $60 USD a year ($47 hosting + $9.99 domain name) for a website of your own! For this cost, I think EVERYONE should have a online web presence, whether it be their online portfolio, resume, or just a cool website idea or blog. You can easily enough jump over to drupal.org and download their FREE opensource CMS (content management system) and have your very own website running in less than 10 minutes. In the very near future, I will be creating a video tutorial series on how to make your own website from start to finish. And the first 3 steps will be:
1.) Pick your Website (domain) name
2.) Choose a Web Hosting Plan
3.) Installing a CMS to build your website
Once you have completed the first 3 steps, you will then have your very own website on the world wide web! Now you need to decide what you will put on your website!
