8.9 is one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded. Tokyo is still having 5-7 mag earthquakes as I write this at midnight, more than 9 hours after the first quake. I wanted to give credit to Viber today, a free iPhone app that lets you make voice calls over the data network.

Since everyone was trying to make calls today the network was flooded and NOBODY could make a voice call, at least I didn’t see one person able to. Although, my Viber app did! I was able to call my family back in the US through Viber and other friends in Japan. It was like having an emergency satellite phone, where I could make phone calls even when the cellular network was down. I highly recommend everyone to download it now, just in case you are in the same situation yourself in the future.
